Re-creating & Re-imagining
Community Care
Because it takes a village to raise our children.
Our mission is to address and bring support solutions that improve Black maternal health experiences and outcomes in Canada through doula & community based care.
Better is coming.
Together, we’re working to create systems that help improve pregnancy, birth, and parenting experiences for the current and coming generations.
CommUnity Doulas is a project on MakeWay's shared platform
MakeWay provides operational supports, governance, and charitable expertise for changemakers. The shared platform enables more time and money to go towards achieving greater impact. MakeWay is a national charity that builds partnerships and solutions to help nature and communities thrive together.
The Project
We believe community is greater than charity. With this project we aim to demonstrate the need for and value of culturally informed, community centred, doula-led care.
This project is intended to serve as a vehicle to illustrate the ways doulas can support families during the pregnancy and postpartum period. We also aim to demonstrate the ways that culturally competent support can positively impact families experiencing maternal and parental health disparities.
